BREAK A LEG
What an experience! First time efforts for our sixth grade Drama, Set Design, and Marketing classes. In only nine weeks, I am completely mind blown at such an exceptional performance put on by all these creative cats.
At the beginning of this school year, we had this creative vision of how all three of our elective classes could work together cross-curricularly and the students could have a dose of what is offered in high school. This quarter, the Set Design class created the set and worked behind the scenes for the play 'Hoodie' put on by the Drama department, and the Marketing class created a program and advertised the play school wide.
It was quite the first time experience! You try handing a sixth grader a handsaw without your blood pressure rising. The Lord Jesus was with me during those high anxiety moments and with all their mad skills there was no blood shed. Thank you Jesus! And the last minute favors for amplifiers that we realized we needed after we ordered hundreds o dollars of mics for the kids. With three heads together, we pulled it off. Well, kind of - there were many moments of "We can't hear them", "Are their mics working?". Or there were the students' voices through the speakers completely unaware that their mics were on or just showing off how grown up they are by saying things like "Deez nuts." or " I forgot my freakin' lines." Yeah, that happened. Continuously bringing in the comedy through all the hiccups, these kids finished out the nine weeks with a win!
Lesson learned? We are switching to eighth grade.
