Our school = flooded. So, we are living that gypsy life from campus to campus and classroom to classroom. Today was a blessing and a breakdown all in the same breath. Another middle school has taken in our ENTIRE campus with open arms. 622 KIDS! Thank ya Jesus that our Pirate family gets to tread water together. Just keep swimming...just keep swimming..
First day back after the flood on a new campus and it's really starting to SINK in. We, as teachers, are walking around with our noses in maps trying to locate our temporary home away from home and thinking about how the heck we are going to help students navigate in the process! Well, my mind needs to stay busy so why not break out the ole silhouette and make some fancy signs to make our kiddos and teachers alike feel a wee more comfortable sailing new grounds!
It's been nearly two weeks and we still have not been able to inventory our classrooms to see what was lost during the flood. With deadlines for teacher assistance around the corner, we are anxious to know what was salvaged and what was lost. Living in the unknown has been exhausting for all of us. We can't fill out forms for assistance without knowing what was lost and as the days keep passing and we are told to make lists of what we think we lost, each little thing two feet from the ground will bring you to tears. I've lost hundreds of dollars in my classroom alone. The combined loss of our school is devastating. It has been a humbling experience to say the least!
Today we will cry and maybe tomorrow and the next day, but Monday we will rise because we have to for our students. And we follow in the footsteps of some pretty great boss ladies, the ones wearing tiaras and 5-inch heels.
