Movie night. It's 11 p.m. and I'm still up on a school night. I'm feelin' like a rebel in my own home. I just watched a movie that stirred up almost every emotion...I'd say that's a damn good movie. Sorry for the language kids. It's the kind of movie that makes you feel ALIVE, the kind that stirs your heart to want MORE. As I sit here on my navy couch while the credits run and the soundtrack continues to move me, I am contemplating how I can continue to cultivate this fire in my heart and wake up with it tomorrow.
When I was in college, I was blessed to land a gig interning out in California with two friends of mine. We were interns which means we made NO money and we ate PB&Js on the reg and we were YOUNG, WILD, and FREE. As much as I hate how trendy that saying is, it's the only thing that is coming to my mind in these late hours. But seriously, I was young, foolish, and still living under my parents roof. California fueled my heart and I loved every minute of it.
The picture above was one I just stumbled upon from my Facebook album titled 'Potato Salad.' I have NO idea why the heck it's titled that, but I'm pretty sure there is some asinine inside joke to blame. I remember feeling like I was so much more creative in those days of adult-ish behavior. I love how a photo, song, or scent can do that, take you back to a moment in time and you can close your eyes and be in it. I adore those moments.
Sometimes we need those pictures, dreams, and lyrics to trigger those little memories. Those are the things that cultivate the spark.
And there is a reason this is my favorite quote:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” - Marianne Williamson
No matter what happens throughout the day, give yourself a reminder of who you are, where you are, where you've come from, where you won't go back, and most importantly...WHERE YOU ARE GOING.
