COURTNEY & GREG BIENVENU
MISS LOUISIANA meets a MAN with VISION. These two lovebirds have a story to be told and even though she was once crowned Miss Louisiana, she doesn’t like to claim the spotlight for all her hard work and effort. So allow me…
Once upon a time, a gentleman by the name of Greg Bienvenu fell in love with a woman who’s voice will have you in awe, Miss Courtney Haynes. He followed his heart down to Baton Rouge to be with this beauty and they found themselves engaged and married in 2010. They have two beautiful girls and they are the proud owners of Southern Oaks Athletic Club.
When I was a kid, my brother and I would ride our bikes down the street to this place and go swimming for hours. A golf course also wrapped around the neighborhood years ago. So, this place has quite of bit of nostalgia every time I walk in. I love that I have a window into what once was and what an incredible ‘GEM’ it’s turned out to be.
Greg was hired as a Tennis Director and fell into General Manager not long after. For five years, this man was PATIENT and never doubted the CLARITY of his VISION. To their surprise, they were offered the keys to this diamond and I’ve been enjoying watching their vision come to life over the past few years. Greg is a man with exceptional taste and the guy can build and do anything. It’s quite impressive. It’s no wonder, he has the perfect match. Courtney pours her heart into this place and they make quite the team. They have built a family and a strong community in the Shenandoah area. I’ve never been to a gym like it!
This couple doesn’t shy away from giving back. They do an incredible job of highlighting their members. They have a Members Market each year in November and they are the best hosts for LSU and SAINTS games. They support local bands and are always looking for new ways to entertain. And if you don’t live in the area, I promise you it’s worth the drive. I’m in awe of all of their efforts and love seeing the fruit they bear. They are a LIGHT in Baton Rouge and it’s a breath of fresh air. They invite happiness, hope, and health when you walk through the doors. The staff has hearts just as big as their own. After all, teamwork makes the dream work!
A few years ago, Courtney opened up a door of opportunity for me to do the chalk wall in the main lobby. One of the first months I was in there updating the wall, she introduced me to everyone as an ‘artist’. I’ve been struggling for years to identify as an artist and she has no idea how much she has empowered me and encouraged me to believe in myself. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity and their friendship.
So Baton Rouge, don’t be shy. Go introduce yourself to these two lovebirds and look at all the magic they have created. It will leave you INSPIRED and sweating.
