Fix your eyes on His goodness.
One of the best things about waking up at o dark thirty in the morning is seeing the sun rise and every evening it sets outside my living room windows. I'm watching it set as we speak and I am never disappointed. It has the power to change your mood instantly into gratitude and joy.
What a beautiful day it was today! Morning coffee with one of my favorite people and an afternoon spent poolside reading a book given to me by another great friend. I love a book left with other people's notes and bookmarks. When I was younger, my parents left me in an antique store because I was sitting upstairs next to a bookshelf opening up all the worn out books of others' and consumed by the smell of the old pages. And I didn't even like to read as a child. Ha! Took me all the way to college to enjoy reading books and now I'm addicted. I still love the smell of the pages and could spend hours in the aisles of a Barnes and Noble.
"Keep your face always toward the sunshine and the shadows will fall behind you." - Walt Whitman
That quote was the weekly quote listed in my planner this morning and it couldn't have better timing. Sometimes it is a challenge to stay positive and be optimistic when faced with negativity. Being back on our home campus after the flood has definitely been a challenge and the next few weeks will continue to test me. I am trying to get in the habit of being grateful and thanking God for all his blessings and trusting Him through every minute every day. I'll be honest, it doesn't fall into my thoughts so easily, but I am trying to be more conscious of where my thoughts fall and look to Him first. Starting and ending the day with gratitude and trust will keep me looking forward to seeing the sun rise and set each day.
