EMBRACE THE PROCESS AND ENJOY THE JOURNEY

EMBRACE THE PROCESS AND ENJOY THE JOURNEY

A snap shot of my process before the flood.

A snap shot of my process before the flood.

"Embrace the process, not just the product."

"It's the journey, not the destination."

I wish I had final pictures of my classroom to show you you before and after pictures of this room.  I am choking on my words before the year started..."My room is finally exactly the way I want it.  It's perfect."

The picture above is capturing four tables that I spent many hours decoupaging in old dictionary pages and adding a resin finish the seal the surface.  I turned those ugly yellow tables into something pretty darn beautiful even though they would still shake when the kids would erase (major frustration for the other artists at the table).  I even added sliders and rubber stoppers to all the tables so they wouldn't scratch the floors (major frustration for our custodians).  I was so proud of these tables and the finished product of my room!  Beyond ecstatic and ready to dominate the year with a creative and inspiring atmosphere for the kids.

After the flood, I've had several moments of heavy tears.  This was my home away from home and to see it completed gutted to the roof brings me to my knees.  I have had many moments of anger and frustration. They have yet to let us into our classrooms to see what was lost and what was saved.  We do know that anything that touched the water was trashed along with things that were porous that could potentially mold.

In one of my overwhelming moments, I told one of the teachers that I prayed I wasn't bitter about losing everything and having to start over.  She reminded me that as an artist and a teacher, that I did it because I enjoyed the process and that I would do it all over again.  It took me four years to get here, I think I can do it faster this time!

I want to personally thank all of the friends, teachers, family members, and complete strangers for their donations and prayers.  We are a school with heart and drive and I couldn't do this with anyone else.  They keep me strong and always keep me laughing.
