A DIFFERENT APPROACH...
FIRST DAY O SCHOOL!
It's exciting right? Kids are pumped. You're pumped. You just spent hours dedicated to organizing your classroom and your management plan for the first day of school. And think about it, the kids get to sit through supply collections and classroom management plans tailored to each individual teacher. SEVEN hours of RULES and PROCEDURES...Still excited? As the kid, you are most definitely NOT! The only thing you are excited about is seeing your friends, and silent prayers of sitting next to your besties or that good looking beau or belle you just laid eyes on(not exactly speaking their language) And boom, we just squashed their prayers with assigned seats! Suckaaaahs! For real though, this girl believes in assigned seating. Props to your patience, if you are not one of 'those'! I would however, like to change up the scenery for the first day of school.
I always have a handful of ideas and thoughts running through my mind for the first day of school. I want this year to be POWERFUL, EMOTIONAL, and MEMORABLE. I want to KNOW my kids and how their minds work, who they are, where they'v come from and who they want to be. How about starting that day ONE! So, I created a simple document where they come in writing and talking about themselves because if you are going to get them fools to write, it might as well be about THEM! Let's get DEEP! Exactly what middle schoolers love right? BHAHAHA. I didn't say they would LOVE my activity on the first day of school, but it should break up the monotony of the day.
The idea for this document is not for it to get lost after the first day, but to build relationships throughout the year and to hold each other accountable. Accountability is a SHARED CHALLENGE, but it's a good one and a VALUABLE one. So, I encourage you to try it with me.
